LEXINGTON – The 2017 racing season is in full swing and two of Mid-Ohio’s premier tracks have big plans for the upcoming weekend.
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course hosts its first major event of the year with the Vintage Grand Prix from Friday through Sunday. The track will host 11 racing groups from the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association including Ferrari, Mustang and Aston Martin.
Special events at this year’s Grand Prix include the British Car Showdown on Saturday and the Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, where cars of all makes and models will be allowed to take a lap around the 2.4-mile track. Also on Sunday, the track will host a car show of the competitors from this year’s North Central Ohio Soap Box Derby, which takes place in Mansfield the day prior.

While the SVRA competes at Mid-Ohio, Norwalk’s Summit Motorsports Park will once again welcome the NHRA Mello Yello Series for the Summit Racing NHRA Nationals.
The Mello Yello Series, featuring Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle, will have four rounds of qualifying across Friday and Saturday. The elimination rounds begin at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Special events at the drag strip this year include a battle of jet cars between the Black Pearl Jet Funny Car and the Al Z’s Hot Blade Jet Dragster, a Mello Yello autograph session at 11:15 a.m. Saturday and a Nitro school hosted by Alan Reinhart and Tim Wilkerson.
