UPDATE 8:00 p.m.

A fire that broke out north of Hilltop Drive badly damaged a home and burned 8.8 acres before firefighters were able to bring the fire under control.

The fast-moving fire also destroyed two outbuildings, fences and siding. 

Battalion Chief Rob Pitt said the cause of the fire is under investigation. He said investigators are looking into reports that there were juveniles playing in the greenbelt behind the Teakwood Drive and Rosewood Drive homes before the fire broke out.

Fire crews are getting a handle on the fire off Peppertree Lane in Central Redding Monday evening. 

The fire grew to 8.8 acres and destroyed a home and an outbuilding.

A fire that started in a canyon off Peppertree Lane in central Redding Monday evening destroyed a house and a garage at a second home.

All available fire crews in Redding are battling the blaze that broke out around 6 p.m. 


Authorities are closing Peppertree at Rosewood and Woodhill to incoming traffic, but residents are free to leave. 

The fire raced up the canyon and destroyed a home on Teakwood Drive and a garage of a house next door.


Authorities are now looking for two juveniles suspected of starting the fire in the canyon.
