Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that Attorney K. Scott Hamilton has been selected as the 2017 Detroit Bar Legal Scholar by the Detroit Bar Association.
The Detroit Bar Association established the Detroit Bar Legal Scholar Program to recognize each year original legal work product that advances the field of law and offers the application of new ideas that address the social, educational, economic and/or human advancement of the State of Michigan. Mr. Hamilton’s paper titled Urban Homesteading as a Method of Redeveloping Detroit’s Neighborhoods will be published by the Detroit Bar Association and he will be honored at the Detroit Bar Association’s Annual Meeting on June 21, 2017 at the Detroit Club.
Mr. Hamilton is a Member in the firm’s Detroit office. Throughout his career, he has first chaired more than 30 federal and state bench and jury trials and argued over 40 cases in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Sixth and Tenth Circuits, the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Court of Appeals. He is Co-Chairman of the Federal Bar Association for the Eastern District of Michigan’s Appellate Committee and served as an Adjunct Professor of Law (Appellate Practice) at Michigan State University’s College of Law.
Mr. Hamilton is a Fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and is a Life Member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference. He is also recognized as a leader in his field by Best Lawyers in America, Michigan Super Lawyers, Best’s Directory of Recommended Insurance Lawyers, and DBusiness Top Lawyers. Mr. Hamilton received his B.S. from Central Michigan University and his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School.
