Bent County Senior Citizens Club still going strong – News – BC Democrat Online – Las Animas, CO

We are still here. We will be 52 years old June 15, 2017. We are celebrating 52 years of giving a place for older, 50-plus, to spend time with each other. We still have a birthday dinner on the 15th of each month to celebrate members having birthdays that month.

In the beginning, pitch was the card game to play. Bake sales, chili dinners, stew dinners, rummage sales were some of the ways to make money. In 1977, the building at 201 Sixth St. was completely paid for. We are a nonprofit organization. A certificate of Incorporation is on file with the state of Colorado.

Members pay dues of $60 per year, $5 a month, to keep the club going. Our expenses include electric, water, gas and insurance. In the past few years, we have added, in addition to pitch, dominoes and a puzzle is always ready to work on. As longtime members pass away, go to nursing home and assisted living, we have lost more members than we have gained. In order to keep open, we need new members with new ideas. There are so many ways new members could contribute. They can bring revival to our club. Time has caught up with us and we need a place to spend time with friends instead of staying home alone. It’s an option to be considered. I am 92 years old and a member since 1993. 24 years with a place to visit, to share with others, has kept me going.

We need new members with new ideas.

Over the years, activities have changed. Please feel free to visit us at any time and join us for dinner on the 15th of the month. A wonderful home cooked meal for $5, you will be pleased.
