A STRONG SHOWING on day two has led to a number of players making it into the semi-finals round when play continued in the CAREBACO Junior Championships being played at the National Racquet Centre in Trinidad and Tobago.

The day commenced with the sole Under-11 entrant Nathan King having a hard fought win over Jace Smith of Trinidad and Tobago 21-10, 21-19 to move on to the semi-finals where he will play Andrew Badwah, who is ranked number 2, for a place in the finals.

In the Under-15 division, Dominick Scantlebury’s good run in the tournament continued when he defeated Jason Chen of Suriname 21-12, 21-12 and he is set to play Zion St Rose of Trinidad and Tobago.

Shomari Smith had to come from behind to beat Jair Naipal of Suriname 19-21, 21-15, 21-18 in the Under-17 category.

Gavin Robinson fought hard for his place in the semi-finals when he was taken three sets by Nathaniel Khillawan of Trinidad and Tobago 21-18, 11-21, 21-12. Robinson will now play Joel Angus of Jamaica for a spot in the finals.

Top local junior players Shae Martin and Amanda Haywood both bowed out of the Under-19 singles, but are still in the doubles and mixed doubles.

Martin will team up with Keshem Moore against Cesar Adoni Brio and Jonathan Mangra while teammates Kodie King and Robinson join forces to face the Jamaican pair of Joel Angus and Shane Wilson for places in the under Under-19 doubles finals.

Haywood has teamed up with Yudith Almonte of Dominican Republic and will play Nairobi Jimenez and Bermary Polanco of Dominican Republic in the semi-finals.

The other Barbadian pair of Cheyanna Burnett-Griffith and Krystle Clarke made it to semi-finals where they will play Shemara Lindveld and Ambika Ramraj. 

Marcus Jordan and Joshua Valere will team up to play James Babwah and Nicholi Marcano of Trinidad and Tobago. Other teams in the semi-finals for doubles are Harrison Griffith and Dominick Scantlebury, Robyn Sobers…
