Kindness goes a long way.
Ben Rachilla had never played competitive volleyball before attending Holy Redeemer’s camp the summer before his freshman year.
“I saw the flier for it, and I thought it would be a fun experience,” he said. “When I got there, everybody — all the people, all the seniors, every person on the team — was great to me. That really piqued my interest to go out that year. From then on, I loved it.”
The 6-foot-5 Mountain Top native and head coach Jack Kablick’s Royals are each better off because Rachilla decided to attend the camp.
Rachilla had a breakout season on the hardwood this year, leading the Wyoming Valley Conference with 204 kills in the regular season.
He led the Royals to an umblemished 12-0 mark in league play; they never lost a set.
